SRINAGAR, Sept 27: In a major breakthrough for the security forces in Awantipora area, six associates of the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were arrested today with the recovery of significant cache of IEDs, arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials from their possession.

A police statement said the arrests were made following a specific input about a Pakistan-based Kashmiri terrorist who was coordinating the recruitment of local youth into terror ranks.
It said the arrested individuals were part of a militant module operating in South Kashmir’s Awantipora and Kulgam district.
“These individuals were identified as recruits being prepared to carry out terror acts, including target killings, grenade attacks, and IED detonations, before their formal induction into terrorist ranks,” the statement said.
The statement further said that a case FIR number 108/2024 under the UAPA and Indian Arms Act was registered at Police Station Tral, following which the arrests were made.
Quoting the investigation, the statement said that the module, with support from an Over Ground Worker (OGW) currently in jail, had been providing arms, ammunition, and explosive materials to the recruits.
The police have recovered five IEDs with remotes, 30 detonators, 17 batteries for IEDs, two pistols, three pistol magazines, 25 live rounds, four hand grenades, and Rs 20,000 in cash from the possession of the accused.
Further investigations are underway as more arrests are expected in the case.
