JAMMU, Dec 10: In a tragic road accident, six persons were killed and 12 others got injured, when a mini-bus carrying marriage party rolled down in a deep gorge near Chenani in Udhampur district, this evening.
The injured have been shifted to Udhampur District Hospital and condition of three of them was stated to be critical. Five persons died on the spot while one other succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
The accident took place around 8.30 pm at village Sarori near Garrian-Dhanas, around 12 kms from Chenani town when the minibus JK02Q-4527, which was carrying a barat from village Pachot in Kud, rolled down around 200 feet deep gorge.
On getting information, a police party, led by SHO Chenani, Inspector Paramjeet Singh, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation with the help of locals and others. In view of darkness and difficult approach to the accident site in deep gorge, the rescue teams had to face a tough time in retrieving the dead bodies and shifting the injured to hospital.
Despite hectic efforts by the rescue teams, it took more than two hours to retrieve the dead bodies and shifting the injured to Chenani Hospital from there they were referred to District Hospital Udhampur.
Five persons had died on the spot and their dead bodies were shifted to mortuary of the CHC Chenani while another victim succumbed to his injuries immediately after being shifted from CHC Chenani to District Hospital Udham-pur, informed Police.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Amir, son of Abdul Hamid of Pachote, Bast, tehsil Chenani, Mohd Muzamal, son of Mohd Rafiq of Pachote, Jugal Kishore, son of Suman Kishore of Pachote, Akshay Kumar, son of Jia Lal of Tringla, Batote, Dharvinder, son of Karan Dive of Chasoo, Chenani and Krishan Kumar, son of Kashore Kumar of Bast ( who succumbed to injuries at DH Udhampur).
The injured, admitted at DH Udhampur, were identified as Bansi Lal of Batote, Des Raj of Pathi Pangri, Neeraj Kumar (20), son of Balwant Raj of Batote, Rajinder Kumar (26), son of Rattan Lal of Batote, Sanjay Kumar (25), son of Rattan Lal of Batote, , Kaka Ram (28), son of Jodh Ram of Pachote, Pritam Chand (19), son of Vikram Chand of Pachote, Poonam Devi (18), daughter of Bansi Lal of Pachote, Ranjeet (19), son of Romesh Kumar of Marmat, Kaka Ram (19), son of Bishan Dass of Chenani and Krishan Lal (19), son of Kishore Kumar of Bast.
According to Police, the victims were part of the ‘barat’ which had gone to village Pachot near Kud. They were on way back to Chenani when the vehicle skidded off the road at Sarori near Garrian-Dhanas and rolled down into deep gorge resulting into death of six persons and grievous injuries to others.
