SRINAGAR, Mar 9:
Despite bad weather during the last 24 hours, six guests from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) arrived here while two Kashmiri residents crossed over to the other side of Line of Control (LoC) in weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus service, which was suspended last week due to landslides and snowfall.
Meanwhile, 28 returnees also crossed sides at the post after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge, on foot this afternoon. They said six PoK residents arrived here to meet their relatives, separated in 1947 due to partition.
Sources said 13 Kashmiris who had gone to PoK returned to their homes after completing their stay across the border. They included eight women and a child.
They said only two residents of Kashmir crossed to other side of the LoC this week. However, 15 PoK residents, who had come here in previous Karvan-e-Aman buses also returned to their homes after completing stay here.
The bus service, which operates between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad every Monday, could not operate last week following landslides and snowfall on the other side of the border.
The service, started on April 7, 2005 has helped thousands of families, divided in 1947, to meet each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of State subjects on both sides of the line on permits instead of international passport. (UNI)
