60 kg poppy straw seized, 2 accused arrested

UDHAMPUR, May 24: Udhampur Police today foiled a major attempt of smuggling narcotics and psychotropic substance when 60 kg of poppy straw was seized from a truck intercepted at Jakhani naka.
Driver of the truck and his associate were arrested on the spot while the vehicle was also seized besides registration of a case in this regard at Police Station Udhampur.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur and Dr Rohit Chadgal, DySP Hqrs Udhampur, laid a naka at Jakhani, NHW Udhampur and intercepted one truck, bearing registration number PB13AP- 7877.
During checking, 60 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the truck. The accused driver, namely Mohd Dilshad, son of Lali Mohd of Mohalla Jamalpur, alongwith Mohd Rafiq, son of Mohd Taj Ali of Malerkotla, Punjab, were arrested on the spot.
In this connection, a case FIR number 206/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
