UDHAMPUR, Oct 22: Udhampur Police today foiled a major attempt of smuggling narcotic substances and seized 60 kg of poppy straw from a truck at Jakheni.
Based on a reliable information regarding smuggling of poppy straw, a police party of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of SSP Udhampur Rajeev Panday, laid a naka near Jakheni, National Highway Udhampur and intercepted one truck bearing registration number PB 13S-9382.
During thorough search, 60 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the truck. Police arrested the truck driver, identified as Gagan Deep Singh, son of Harbans Singh of Ludhiana Punjab, and seized the recovered poppy straw. The vehicle used by the smuggler was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR number 497/19, under Section S 8 /15/29 NDPS ACT has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
