60 kg poppy straw seized, smuggler arrested

UDHAMPUR, July 14: Udhampur Police arrested a narcotics smuggler and seized 60 kg poppy straw, which was being smuggled from Kashmir by the accused in a vehicle.
Reports said that Police team from Police Post Roundomail, led by SHO Police Station Udhampur Inspector Raghubir Singh and assisted by IC PP Roundomail PSI Mohd Shafique, while performing vehicle checking at naka point Roundomail, stopped one vehicle Tata Mobile bearing registration number PB08FD-4276 for checking purpose.
During checking, four gunny bags having approx 60 kg of poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle following which Police arrested driver of the vehicle, identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Kimti Lal of Greater Kailash, Maqsudan Jalandhar.
A case vide FIR No. 324/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in this connection in Police Station Udhampur and further investigation was set into the probe.
