UDHAMPUR, Sept 23: In a major success to check the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Udhampur Police today seized 600 kg of poppy straw at Jakhani Chowk, NHW, Udhampur and arrested the smuggler. Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that the truck carrying poppy straw was intercepted at Jakhani Chowk by Police parties of PS Udhampur and PP Roundomail, led by SHO Vijay Choudhary and Incharge PP Roundomail Vijay Sharma under the supervision of Dr Rohit Chadgal, DySP Hqrs Udhampur and Rajinder Singh Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur .
The truck, bearing registration number PB 10CW 2146 was on way from Srinagar to Jammu. Police seized the truck as well as the poppy straw and arrested its driver, identified as Lav Singh son of Gurdeep Singh of Bareen, Gurdaspur.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 437/19 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
