KATRA, May 21: Katra Police today seized 650 pouches of illicit liquor, which were being smuggled to the holy town in a car, even as the accused smuggler managed to escape.
Acting on a specific information, a Police team headed by SI Mohd Ashraf, I/C Police Station Katra, under the supervision of Dr Ashok Sharma, SDPO Katra, laid special naka near PCP Balini. During checking, the police team succeeded in recovery of 650 poly pouches measuring 250/250 ml each of J&K Excise liquor from an Alto car bearing registration number JK02AJ/1879.
The accused namely Gurbachan Singh of Dera Bhabbar in Reasi fled away from the spot while Police seized the poly pouches of liquor as well as the Alto car.
In this connection, a case under FIR No. 84/2016 U/S 48-A Excise Act, 188/RPC has been registered at Police Station Katra.
Meanwhile, Katra Police also arrested a drug peddler and seized 750 gms of poppy straw (Bhuki) from his possession. The accused was identified as Pawan Kumar of Dehari, Ramnagar in district Udhampur.
A case FIR No. 85/2016 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act, has been registered in this regard at Police Station Katra.
