67th Jhangar Day: Brig Usman, his gallant men remembered

JAMMU, July 3: On the occasion of the 67th Jhangar Day, a grand yet solemn memorial function was organized by the Indian Army’s Ace of Spades Division at the border village of Jhangar in Nowshera Tehsil, today.
The function commemorated the supreme sacrifice of the brave Brigadier Mohammed Usman, Maha Vir Chakra and his men, who, during the 1947-48 operations, not just prevented the capture of Nowshera Town but in a hard fought battle, recaptured the Jhangar area from Pakistan Army and other intruders.
Lt Gen KH Singh, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, who was the chief guest on the occasion, laid a wreath at the Usman Memorial and thereafter along with a large number of civil dignitaries, Army personnel, Police and locals of the area witnessed an impressive cultural programme by the winners of the recently concluded “Jhangar Idol” competition.
On this momentous occasion, the chief guest felicitated Veer Naris, Bal Sainiks and the Brave hearts and highly appreciated the bonhomie between the Army, civil administration and the locals of the area. Lt Gen KH Singh also expressed his happiness over the conduct of the Medical, Eye, Artificial Limb and Agriculture Camp. He also interacted with the beneficiaries of these events. More than 1200 locals of Nowshera witnessed this grand function.
The General Officer Commanding also recalled the valiant contribution of the local youth who took active part to assist the Indian Army during 1947- 48. He called upon all concerned to actively participate in the India story.
A function was also organized today by J&K Freedom Fighters’ Association (JKFFA) at Bal Niketan Ved Mandir, Ambphalla, Jammu, to pay tributes to Brigadier Mohd Usman. The function was organized by president, Ved Gandotra. Vikas Bhatti was the guest of honour on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the deeds of Brigadier Usman and lit candles in the memory of great Martyr while paying him rich tributes.
The speakers also remembered all those known and unknown martyrs and freedom fighters, who sacrificed everything to attain freedom for the Modern India.
