UDHAMPUR, Mar 23: Udhampur Police today foiled a major attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued 68 animals at Chenani besides arresting nine smugglers.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur, Rajiv Pandey said that the rescued bovine animals were being smuggled to Kashmir in five trucks, which were intercepted by Chenani Police, led by SHO Paramjeet Singh.
Based on some reliable information regarding illegal transportation of bovine animals, a Police party laid surprise naka at Motorshed, National Highway and intercepted five trucks bearing registration numbers JK02AE- 7811, JK02AN- 0783, JK03AC- 5330, JK02AD- 6085 and JK02AB- 7318.
During search, 68 bovine animals were found illegally loaded in these vehicles. Police rescued all the bovine animals and seized the vehicles besides arresting the smugglers, identified as Fiaz Ahmed, son of Ghulam Ali of Ragoora Jammu, Mohd. Zubar son of Atta Mohd of Bhudal Rajouri, Mohd Yaqoob son of Kayian of Pouni Chak Jammu, Bilal Ahmed son of Ab Rehman of Khanabal, Anantnag, Yasir Ahmed son of Manzoor Ahmed of Khanpura Kokernag, Tahir Ahmed son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Disudikshan Kokernag, Mohd Shamaun son of Mohd Yaqoob of Miran Sahib Jammu, Mohd Ashraf son of Mohd Yaqoob of Larno Kokernag and Farooq Ahmed son of Sain Booker of Gole Mela, Udhampur .
In this connection, case has been registered at Police Station Chenani under relevant sections of law and further investigation is going on.
