6884 cases disposed off during Lok Adalats across State

JAMMU, Apr 8: J&K State Legal Services Authority today organized National Lok Adalat across the State wherein 6884 cases were disposed off and an amount of Rs 3.91 crore was awarded in MACT cases and an amount of Rs 15.28 crore was settled in bank recovery suits.
According to R N Wattal, Member Secretary, J&K State Legal Services Authority, the Lok Adalats were held at High Court, District and Tehsil Level under the patronage of Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, Chief Justice of J&K High Court and Patron-in-Chief of J&K State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman of JKSLSA.
At High Court Wing Jammu, two benches were constituted one consisting of Puneet Gupta, Special Judge CBI Jammu and Mohd Akram Chowdhary, first Additional District Judge Jammu and second bench was headed by R K Wattal, Presiding Officer J&K Special Tribunal Jammu.
At High Court Wing Srinagar, three benches were constituted one headed by Y P Kotwal, Special Judge CBI Srinagar and assisted by Mohd Shafi Khan, Retd District Judge, second headed by C L Bowaria, 4th Additional District Judge Srinagar and assisted by Rasheed Ahmad Lone, Retd District Judge and third headed by M Y Akhoon, Presiding Officer Food Safety Appellate Tribunal Srinagar and assisted by Surrender Singh P&T Magistrate Srinagar.
In District Court Complex Janipur, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Sanjay Gupta, Principal District and Sessions Judge. A total of eight benches were constituted.
The first bench was presided over by Jaffer Hussain Beg, Presiding Officer MACT and Meyank Gupta, 3rd Additional Munsiff Jammu. The second bench was presided over by Rajesh Sekhri, Additional District Judge (Bank Cases) Jammu and Kishore Kumar, 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu.
The third bench was headed by Subash Gupta, Additional District Judge (Matrimonial cases) and Kusum Lata Pandita, Sub-Judge Jammu. The 4th bench was headed by Yashpal Sharma, Special Excise Magistrate Jammu and Anjum Ara, Special Mobile Magistrate 13th Finance Commission. The 6th bench was headed by Mohammad Rafiq Chak, Special Municipal Magistrate Jammu and Arti Devi, Munsiff Jammu. The 7th Bench was headed by Arti Mohan, Special Mobile Magistrate (Traffic) and the 8th bench was headed by Anoop Sharma, Special Railway Magistrate Jammu.
A total of 1197 cases were taken up out of which 702 were decided. An amount of Rs 5545000 was awarded in accidental claim cases while as recovery of Rs 145705615 was made in bank cases. Similarly, fine of Rs 122750 was imposed in petty criminal cases and an amount of Rs 226451 was recovered as electricity charges.
In Srinagar, the National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Rasheed Ali Dar in which 445 cases were settled. A total of 825 cases were taken up for hearing during which an amount of Rs 70,000 was recovered as fine in various challans and an amount of Rs 55.40 lakh was awarded as compensation in various MACT cases. Besides, Rs. 98,000 was recovered as settlement amount in various bank matters.
In Udhampur, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of K S Parihar, Principal District and Sessions Judge. A total of six benches were constituted and 42 cases were settled. An amount of Rs 38,34,000 in MACT cases and Rs 210000 was realized in bank cases. Similarly fine of Rs 3100 was imposed in criminal compoundable cases.
The benches were comprised of K S Parihar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Sudesh Sharma, Additional Sessions Judge, Sonia Gupta, Additional District and Sessions Judge Udhampur, Parveen Pandoh, District Judicial Mobile Magistrate (Traffic), R K Dubey, CJM, Susheel Singh, Munsiff JMIC Udhampur, Renu Dogra, Sub-Judge Ramnagar, Ramesh Singh, Tehsildar Ramnagar, T A Magrey, Munsiff Majalta, Advocate M L Gupta and Smati Sharma, Munsiff Chenani.
In Doda district, the National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of O P Thakur, CJM Doda. He was assited by Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Arun Kumar Kotwal and District Judicial Mobile Magistrate Javed Rana.
A total of 202 cases were taken up and an award of Rs 1347250 was passed in different cases and an amount of Rs 455150 was recovered on spot.
In Rajouri district, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Rajinder Saproo, Additional Sessions Judge in which 415 cases were taken up and 380 were decided. A total of 11 MACT cases were settled in the Lok Adalat and an amount of Rs 1834000 was awarded as compensation. The benches were comprised of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Sub-Judge/Special Mobile Magistrate Rajouri, Mehmood Choudhary, CJM Rajouri, Sarfraz Nawaz, District Judicial Mobile Magistrate Rajouri and Advocate Junaid Hussain.
In Kathua, the Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Vinod Chatterji Koul, Principal District and Sessions Judge. An amount of Rs 6275000 was awarded as compensation in MACT cases and recovery of Rs 807000 was made in bank cases. Similarly, in electricity cases dues worth Rs 1573200 were recovered. Moreover, compound money worth Rs 44750 was recovered. A total of 432 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat and 252 were decided.
The benches were comprised of Vinod Chatterji Koul, Principal District and Sessions Judge Kathua, S C Katal, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Amarjeet Singh Langeh, CJM Kathua and Preet Simran Kour, Munsiff JMIC Kathua.
The District Legal Services Authority, Doda (Bhaderwah) organized a National Lok Adalat under the chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge, Bhaderwah, M K Sharma. The Lok Adalat comprised of seven benches decided 329 cases. An amount of Rs 6204257 was realized in the MACT cases, bank recovery cases, compoundable criminal cases and public utility cases.
Similarly, National Lok Adalat was held at Sub Judge Court Complex Ramnagar under the chairmanship of Sub Judge Ramnagar Renu Dogra. A total of 16 cases including pre-litigation matters, bank recovery, criminal compoundable and matrimonial issues were disposed off during the Lok Adalat
At Tehsil Headquarters Bishnah, Akhnoor and R S Pura, separate benches were constituted which were presided over by Chairman Tehsil Legal Service Authority. Chairman Tehsil Legal Service Authority Jammu Sunit Gupta (CJM Jammu) and Secretary District Legal Service Authority Adnan Syed Sub Registrar Jammu also actively participated in Lok Adalat. A total number of 1197 were taken up, of which, 702 have been decided.
Besides, Additional District Magistrate, Jammu Arun Manhas also constituted separate revenue benches at different revenue Tehsil Headquarters in which 351 revenue cases and cases under Section 107/151 CrPC were decided.
National Lok Adalats were also held in various districts of Kashmir division including Anantnag, Bandipora, Kulgam and Shopian, during which many cases of varying natures were settled amicably.
In Anantnag, a total of 304 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 220 cases were settled and a total settlement amount of Rs 29.33 lakh was awarded. In Bandipora, a total of 1349 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 1055 cases were settled and a total amount of Rs 1.73 crore was awarded.
In Kulgam, 93 out of 125 cases taken up for hearing were settled and an amount of Rs 7.95 lakh was awarded as compensation in MACT cases. In Shopian, a total of 162 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 80 cases were settled and a total settlement amount of Rs 32.57 lakh was awarded.
