JAMMU, Feb 15: Seven persons have been arrested along with 650 bottles of banned syrup and 8200 intoxicant capsules from Panama Chowk area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station.
Addressing a press conference SP South Shaazad Salaria informed that, on specific information, SOG team and police cops from Gandhi Nagar police station raised a naka near Panama Chowk and intercepted two trucks bearing registration numbers JK14D-5478 and UK08CA-3716.
During checking, police recovered 650 bottles of banned syrup and 8200 intoxicant capsules from the possession of seven persons and arrested them on the spot, Mr Salaria added.
The accused have been identified as Liaquat Ali, son of Fareed Ahmed of Bagar, district Doda, Irshad Ahmed, son of Mahtab Din of Batote, Rakesh Sharma, son of Paras Ram of Jogwan, Akhnoor, Atam Singh, son of Krishan Chand of Dharam Kund, Ramban, Parvez Ahmed, son of Mir Hussain of Haridwar, Raju Pandit, son of Amika Pandit of Uttrakhand, at present Rajouri and Abdul Rehman, son of Iqbal Ahmed of Uttrakhand.
During questioning, the drug peddlers deposed that the consignment was brought from outside the State for sale among the youths of J&K, SP stated.
The smugglers have changed their modus operandi by bringing drug consignment in trucks which was earlier brought through bus and train routes, he added.
Cases under FIR Numbers 47/16 and 48/16 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered with Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigations started.
A team headed by SHO Gandhi Nagar police station Inspector Bishnesh Kumar, SI Ajay Engotra of SOG, ASI Om Parkash and PSI Javed Iqbal Choudhary from Gandhi Nagar police station made the arrest under the supervision of SP South Shaazad Salaria, SP Operations Uday Bhaskar Billa and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
