7 billion population

Sir,
The article ‘‘Water resources management’’ by Vishal Raina and Vivek Arya DE, January 7, 2013 is worth appreciation. Authors have rightly said that much of the water is unavailable for human consumption, which is merely 2.5 to 3.0 per cent of all the existing water on the planet earth. The article further speaks that water besides being used by humans is needed for fishery, power generation, transportation and in sustenance of ecological balance including biodiversity vis-a-vis agriculture. Agriculture is known to be the biggest user of fresh water, rendering higher water annual demand for many countries. This pattern has to be altered due to enhanced food production for the looming population. This requires water resources management which stands elaborated in this article. However, the authors are required to check the figure of the world population which they have cited in the said write-up as 6 billions. The United Nation “calculates that the global population, which on 31 October 2011 is estimated to reach 7 billion people, will hit 9.3 billion by 2050 and more than 10 billion by the end of the century.” It is now more than 7 billion.
Yours etc….
