SRINAGAR: Seven candidates are in the fray for Anantnag Lok Sabha bypoll as the deadline for filing nominations ended today.
The main contest is expected between ruling PDP candidate Mufti Tassaduq Hussain and State Congress chief G A Mir.
“We have received seven nomination papers during the prescribed time limit,” an election official said.
The bypoll was necessitated for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat after Hussain’s sister Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the Parliament to become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir last year.
Scrutiny of the nominations will be held on March 27 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is March 29 for Anantnag seat where polling will be held April 12, the official said.
Meanwhile, a total of nine candidates remained in the fray for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency as no candidate withdrew papers. (AGENCIES)
