JAMMU, Aug 17: 7-day multi lingual short story festival by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) begun today at JKAACL premises in Jammu.
This is for the first time that such a big festival of short stories is being organised by JKAACL In this 7- day festival, writers of Dogri, Hindi, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari and Kashmiri languages will present their short stories. The festival will feature senior writers along with young budding writers of J&K.
The festival was inaugurated by Padamshree Dr Jitender Udhampuri by lighting of ceremonial lamp, in the presence of Padamshree Mohan Singh, Dr Om Goswami and Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL.
At the outset, Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL, said that the festival has begun with Dogri Language conference as it is the most prominent language of the region. He said there is always a conflict between two things one is self-interest and other is public interest. If we think of public interest by keeping self-interest aside, only then our society will flourish, he added.
Guest of honour Dr Om Goswami gave, in his address, expressed his concern about the discontinuing of various schemes run by JKAACL for the development of Art and Culture. He requested the authorities to revive those schemes.
The chief guest Padamshree Mohan Singh, in his speech, praised the efforts of Padamshree Dr Jitender Udhampuri and Dr Om Goswami for the development of Dogri literature.
In his presidential address, Padamshree Dr Jitender Udhampuri said that such kind of festivals gives us an opportunity to listen and learn various aspects of language.
The inaugural session concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Shahnawaz, Editor cum Cultural Officer, JKAACL. This session was conducted by Reeta Khadyal, Assistant Editor, JKAACL.
After the inaugural session, short stories were presented by Santosh Sangra, Inderjit Kesar, Sunita Bhadwal, Raj Rahi, Saroj Bala, Krishan Sharma, Rajeshwar Singh Raju, Shiv Dev Sushil and Jagdeep Dubey. This session was conducted by Pawan Verma. Tomorrow on 18th August, writers of Hindi language will present their short stories.
