7-hr long hand reconstruction surgery performed at GMC

JAMMU, Dec 31: A very unique, 7-hour- long hand and wrist reconstruction surgery of a villager seriously injured in Leopard attack was performed at Govt Medical College Hospital, Jammu.
A GMC spokesman said that a person named- Abdul Qayoom (30), sustained severe injury to his right wrist and hand due to Leopard attack and bite in remote area of Kishtwar on Saturday while he was grazing sheep. He was referred to GMC Jammu from District Hospital Kishtwar Saturday morning.
The patient, a nomad, underwent 7- hour-long surgery wherein the multiple fractures of hand bone were fixed, blood vessels and nerves of the hand were repaired followed by Coverage of lost skin by flap from thigh.
Dr Ratnakar Sharma HoD Surgery GMC Jammu along with his team comprising of Dr Priyanka, Senior Resident, Dr Sawan Singh Senior Resident, Dr Mohsin and Dr Sanjay performed the Surgery. The patient is stable at present. Dr Ratnakar had also operated and saved hand of victim of Dangri terror attack Rahul and blast victim Vinod Kumar who sustained injuries in January 2023.
