RAJOURI, Sept 14: In a major success, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Rajouri foiled a smuggling big and recovered a huge consignment of high cost Heroin like substance running in crores with one peddler arrested so far.
The arrested accused has been identified as Tariq Ahmed Ghanie, son of Ghulam Ahmed Ghanie of Bachro Kulgam, who was smuggling the consignment in a Tata Mobile vehicle, which was intercepted by a Police party from Police Station Rajouri.
Sustained questioning of the accused is going on to unearth all links of the peddler and more arrests are likely in the case.
Accompanied by other officers, SSP Rajouri, Chandan Kohli informed during a hurriedly called press conference that a team of police headed by SHO Rajouri Sameer Jillani and Incharge PP Chatyar Chingus, SI Ashish Chowdhary were on a naka duty when a Tata Mobile JK11B- 8033 was intercepted to stop for routine frisking.
During frisking of vehicle, police personnel on duty succeeded in recovering a huge consignment of drugs that was kept hidden in the vehicle in a professional manner.
“The driver of the vehicle identified as Tariq Ahmed Ghanie son of Ghulam Ahmed Ghanie resident of Bachro Kulgam was arrested on the spot and vehicle was seized.” SSP said adding that the consignment recovered from the vehicle is of Heroin like substance weighing around seven kilograms and is expected to cost in several crores of rupees.
“Sustained questioning from the accused is going on and we are working to unearth all the links of this peddler and the source of this consignment.” SSP Chandan Kohli said adding that all possible aspects including cross border smuggling are being probed in this case and more arrests are likely.
A case FIR 484/20 under sections 8(a), 21/60 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Rajouri.
The SSP further informed that this was the second big catch for Rajouri police in five days as earlier a boy from Ninganar Thandikassi area of Rajouri was nabbed alongwith 670 grams of Heroin like substance from Panjal Gala Namblan village area of Rajouri.
He also appealed all the parents and guardians to play their role in society and ensure to keep a check on the activities of their wards to prevent them from falling in such activities.
