Pak shells Uri, Poonch, Nowshera areas

JAMMU, May 4: Pakistani troops fired mortars on the Indian posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Poonch, Nowshera and Akhnoor sectors today while at least seven Pak troops were killed in Indian retaliation in Nakyal area of Pak occupied Kashmir.
Official sources told the Excelsior that at around 4 pm today, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing with small arms and shelling with mortars along LoC in Nowshera sector.
“Pakistan also targeted Sunderbani and Uri sectors and indulged in unprovoked ceasefire violation this afternoon. Indian Army retaliated befittingly,” the sources added.
During heavy Indian retaliation, two enemy posts in Nakyal area of PoK were targeted and at least seven Pakistani troops were repotedly killed. However, there was no immediate report of any casualty in the shelling on the Indian side, the official said.
There was fear and panic among villagers along the LoC in Rajouri, Poonch, Uri and Kupwara since three civilians were killed on LoC last week in the Pakistani shelling.
The Pak troops also targeted Balakote area of Poonch and Khour in Akhnoor sectors. However, no loss of life or property was reported. There was scare among the villages along the LoC in these areas as the farmers were busy in harvesting/thrashing activity which was also hit with the shelling.
Reports from Kashmir said that on Monday morning, the border residents witnesed cross border shelling, which ended on same note as both neighbours again exchanged gunfire along the LoC in Uri sector till late this evening.
It said Pakistani troops initiated ceasefire violation at around 9 pm by firing small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Salikote and Churunda sub sectors of Uri.
Earlier, during the day, India and Pakistan troops also traded fire in Hajipeer sector of Uri.
