7 peddlers held with 52 codeine bottles, poppy straw

SRINAGAR, Aug 18: Police today arrested 7 drug peddlers in Sopore, Kulgam, Budgam, and Baramulla and recovered 52 codeine bottles including several kilograms of poppy straw from their possession.
In Sopore, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora intercepted & apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Abdullah Wani resident of Tujjar Shareef Sopore, police said.
‘During checking, 12 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.”
In Kulgam, a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Drien Daulatabad near NHW apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Brankher Drien, Daulatabad, police said.
“During the search, 5Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substances were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Magam arrested 4 drug peddlers identified as Zahid Majeed Bhat son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, Irfan Ahmad War son of Abdul Ahad War both residents of Peth-Kanihama, Tariq Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray resident of Warihama and Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rahman Dar resident of Badran Magam, police said.
During the search, 40 bottles of codeine phosphate and a cash amount of Rs. 13100/= was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the said case.
In Baramulla, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz, assisted by Incharge PP Palhallan arrested a drug smuggler namely Abdul Hameed Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir resident of Seru Gudwani Pattan during a checkpoint at TCP Palpora Crossing Pattan, police said.
During the search, 2.750 Kgs of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
