70 kg poppy straw seized, 2 arrested

RAJOURI, Aug 20: The police seized 70 kilogram poppy-straw (Bukki) from an HP Gas Tanker and arrested its driver and cleaner near Rajouri this morning.
A police spokesman said that a police party during nakka at Lamberi, between Rajouri and Nowshera on Jammu-Poonch highway intercepted an LPG Tanker No. NL01L/7007 at around 6 AM today and ruing checking, found 70 kilogram of poppy straw being smuggled in the tanker to Punjab. They had concealed it in the tool box.
The police arrested both the driver and cleaner and also seized the Tanker. They were identified as Raftar Ahmed and Mukhtiar Ahmed, both sons of Sabar Hussain, residents of Ladyot village in Rajouri. The police brought them to Rajouri Police Station and placed them under sustained questioning. They revealed that after off loading LPG, at Pampore in Kashmir they were returning via Mughal Road.
They further disclosed that due to massive traffic jam in Ramban-Banihal and Chenani- Udhampur area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway they had taken this route. They also disclosed that they had to deliver this consignment in Punjab and a courier had to contact them on way. Police was further investigating. They also confessed to have smuggled this consignment two-three times on earlier occasions.
