75,000 applications under Roshni Scheme pending for disposal: Govt

JAMMU, Mar 27: Minister for Revenue, Javaid Mustafa Mir today said that nearly 75,000 applications received under Roshni Scheme are pending for disposal across Jammu and Kashmir in view of the directions of State High Court.
Replying to the questions of BJP MLA, Rajiv Jasrotia and Congress MLA, Ch Mohammad Akram in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said, “the process of implementation of J&K State Lands (Vesting of Ownership to the Occupants) Act, 2001 popularly known as Roshni Scheme has been put on hold in terms of the directions of the High Court issued in a Public Interest Litigation titled Prof S K Bhalla Versus State of J&K and Others”.
“There is no proposal for considering the cases which could not be submitted within the prescribed time frame to the Government”, the Minister further said.
In response to another question, Mr Mir said that settlement operations are going on in various areas of State and large number of villages have been taken up for preparation of Record of Rights (Settlement) in the first instance.
