80 Kg poppy straw recovered, 3 smugglers nabbed

UDHAMPUR, Sept 4: The police recovered 80 kilograms of contraband substance (poppy straw) from three narcotic smugglers in Udhampur area today.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur, Rajiv Pandey, said that Police party from Udhampur Police Station led by Insp Vijay Singh Choudhary (SHO) PS Udhampur under the supervision of Dr Rohit Chadgal (DySP) and Rajinder Kumar Katoch Addl SP Udhampur laid a naka at Jakhani, National Highway for frequent checking of vehicles.
During checking, police party intercepted one truck bearing registration No. PB06H/ 9815. After physical check of the vehicle, 50 kg of poppy straw was recovered from it. The accused driver namely Bagwant Singh, son of Kulwant Singh, resident of Amritsar was arrested on the spot.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 408/2019 U/S 8/15 NDPS stands registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
In another case, Police party of Police Post Roundomail led by SI Vijay Sharma, Incharge PP under the supervision of SHO Udhampur laid a naka at Dhar Road near CRPF Camp, Udhampur for surprise checking of vehicles.
During naka checking, police party intercepted two vehicles bearing registration No. PB35Q/ 7642 and PB 07AA/ 7391 for checking. During search of said vehicles, 30 kg of poppy straw was recovered from both the vehicles.
Two accused drivers of the vehicles namely Niranjan Singh, son of Daleep Singh from Battala in Punjab and Surinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh, resident of Dasua, Punjab were arrested on the spot.
In this connection, two Cases under FIR No. 404/2019 U/S 8/15 NDPS and 412 u/s 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station, Udhampur and further investigation of the case was in progress.
