JAMMU, June 8: The week-long inspection drive, launched by EMRE-III, Jammu to put a check on power theft, concluded today, logging over 2900 inspections, booking as many as 825 power defaulters, disconnecting more than 450 illegal connections and regularizing around 1866 kW illegal load.
Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer, EMRE-III (Power Development Department), Jammu said, “This drive helped in gaining momentum in enforcement activities, his teams are now fully geared up to eradicate power theft from both rural as well as urban areas.” He further added that such inspection drives will now be a regular feature and no one indulging in power theft will be spared.
Speaking about the ‘Inspection Week’, he informed that, the drive which started on May 30 and continued till June 7, paid dividends, with the total penal amount on the identified defaulters accumulating to the tune of Rs 25.50 lakh, which has been imposed/included in the electricity bills of the erring consumers while also succeeding in spreading a message/apprehension amongst the public not to indulge in any act of power pilferage as the proactive enforcement squads may set their area as their next target for surveillance.
A total of 19 inspection teams, 8 from Sub-Division Canal under the supervision of Vivek Gupta (AEE), 7 squads from Sub-Division Janipur under the guidance of Ashish Badyal (AEE) and 2 each from Sub-Division Jourian and Akhnoor under the supervision of Bhopinder Singh (AEE) and S S Manhas (AEE), respectively conducted inspections in areas of Bhagwati Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Nitco Lane, Surya Vihar, Talab Tillo, Rehari, Bohri, Subash Nagar, Roop Nagar, Janipur, Durga Nagar, Pamposh Colony, Bantalab, Thather, Mishriwala, Jaurian and Akhnoor towns.
While Sub-Division canal conducted a total of 1250 inspections, penalty amounting to Rs 11,50,843 was imposed on the defaulters. Sub-Division Janipur conducted a total of 1310 inspections, imposing fine to the of Rs 12,42,572 on erring consumers. Likewise, in Jourian, 125 inspections were reportedly conducted imposing total fine of Rs 80,000 while Akhnoor Sub-Division conducted around 215 inspections accumulating penalty of Rs 76,800.
