85% cases settled in Ist Nat’l Lok Adalat

JAMMU, Feb 11: Around 85% cases of different nature were settled by 142 benches constituted across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the first ever National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, an official said.
He said, “total 88,723 cases were taken up during the daylong National Lok Adalat at various courts of the UT. Of them, 75,250 (almost 85%) were settled and an amount of Rs 45.05 crore was awarded as compensation or the settlement amount”.
Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Amit Kumar Gupta said that this was the first National Lok Adalat of the current calendar year and total 4 National Lok Adalats shall be organised during the course of the year.
“The second National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 13, 2023,” informed Gupta.
In Jammu District, the official said that a National Lok Adalat was held under the directions of Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA), Justice Tashi Rabstan and guidance of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Administrative Judge, Jammu District.
There (National Lok Adalat), he said, total 44639 cases of civil, criminal compoundable offences, 138 Negotiable Instrument Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Land Compensation Act, Revenue and other natures, were taken up by 23 benches. Of them, he said, 38106 (85%) were settled and an amount of Rs 165665400.6 was realized.
One special bench of Revenue authorities was also constituted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Avny Lavasa and Collector Land Acquisition Act to deal with the cases pertaining to land compensation, he said.
The bench settled 50 cases and an amount of Rs 1.80 crore was paid as compensation to the land owners, added the official.
The Lok Adalat held in Samba District under the chairmanship of Justice Sonia Gupta, Chairman, DLSA, Samba, took up 531 cases out of which 365 were settled on the spot and an amount of Rs 17552134 was realised as the settlement amount.
In Udhampur District, the spokesperson said, the National Lok Adalat was organized by the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Justice Haq Nawaz Zargar, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur.
“There 1447 cases of different nature were taken up, out of which 1247 cases were settled on the spot and a total amount of Rs 9644909 was realized,” he said.
A total of 1889 cases were taken up for amicable settlement in Kathua District, where 1647 were settled with realization of Rs 20083688.
The National Lok Adalat in Kathua District was held under the chairmanship of Justice Jaffar Hussain Beg, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Kathua.
In Bhaderwah, a National Lok Adalat was organized under the chairmanship of Justice Sunit Gupta, Chairman, DLSA, Bhaderwah. There, 1110 cases were taken up for amicable settlement, out of which 773 cases of different natures were settled and an amount of Rs 5782450 was realized.
The National Lok Adalat in Rajouri District took up 6190 cases of different nature and settled 5866. An amount of Rs 13206250 was also realized during the daylong Lok Adalat held under the chairpersonship of Kalpana Revo, Principal District & Sessions Judge Rajouri.
In Poonch District, the National Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice Ashok Kumar Shavan, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Poonch, total 6269 cases were taken up. Of them, 5824 were settled by eight benches and an amount of Rs 9527850 was realized.
In Reasi District, the National Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice RN Watal, Chairman, DLSA, Reasi, took up 1314 cases and settled 1170 while settling an amount of Rs 43, 16, 200.
Meanwhile, the National Lok Adalat was also organized across Kashmir province on Saturday.
In Srinagar District, an official said that the National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Justice Jawad Ahmad, Chairman, DLSA, Srinagar. There, he said, the 10 benches took up 23576 matters for their amicable settlement, out of which 21133 were settled.
In Anantnag District, the National Lok Adalat organized under the chairmanship of Justice Suresh Chander Katal, PDJ Anantnag took up 4301 cases, out of which 3696 were settled and an amount of Rs 19607901 was realized.
A total of 404 cases were taken up in Baramulla District, where the Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Baramulla, settled 216 cases. An amount of Rs 75, 36, 433 was realized due to the amicable settlement of the cases in Baramulla.
Similarly, in Budgam District, the National Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Administrative Judge for District, total 933 matters were taken up for their amicable settlement, out of which 406 were settled. Besides, an amount of Rs 20503436 was realized in toto in the settlement.
Overall 792 cases were taken up for amicable settlement in Ganderabal District during the daylong National Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman, DLSA, Ganderbal. Of them, 741 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 6427920 was realized.
In Pulwama District, the National Lok Adalat was organized under the chairmanship of Justice Naseer Ahmad Dar, Chairman, DLSA, Pulwama. There, of 376 cases of different nature taken up, 143 were settled besides realization of Rs 2525000.
In Kulgam District, the National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Justice Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Chairman, DLSA, Kulgam. There, total 359 cases were taken up for amicable settlement and of them 211 were settled with realization of Rs 841600.
In South Kashmir’s Shopian District, a total of 108 cases were taken up in the National Lok Adalat held under the chairmanship of Justice Riyaz-Ul-Haq Mirza, Chairman, DLSA, Shopian. Of them, 73 cases were settled and amount of Rs 4177133 was realized.
A total of 753 cases of various natures were taken up in Kupwara District under the daylong National Lok Adalat, where 417 cases were settled on the spot and an amount of Rs 7517000 was realized.
The Lok Adalat in Bandipora District was organized under the chairmanship of Justice Amit Sharma, Chairman DLSA, Bandipora. There, total 273 cases were taken up for settlement, out of which 150 were settled on the spot and an amount of Rs 53.64 lakh was realized as settlement amount.
Pertinently, the Lok Adalat across Jammu and Kashmir was held under the directions of Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA), Justice Tashi Rabstan.
