UDHAMPUR, Jan 3: In a major success, Udhampur Police today seized 85 kgs of contraband substance (poppy straw) from a narcotic smuggler at Jakhani.
Giving details, SSP Rajiv Pandey said that a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Insp Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of Dr Rohit Chadgal, DYSP Hqrs Udhampur and Rajinder Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur, laid a naka at Jakhani, NHW and intercepted one truck bearing registration number PB13A- 6802.
During checking, 85 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle. The accused driver namely Showkat Ali son of Umar Din of Mutai Road, Tehsil Malerkotla, Punjab was arrested on spot. Police seized the poppy straw as well as the truck and registered a case in this connection at PS Udhampur for further investigation.
