JAMMU, Oct 6: Eighty-seven fresh cases of dengue were reported today from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases so far this year to 2454.
A Health official said that 1159 people were screened today for dengue out of which 87 turned out to be positive. Of the 87 positive cases, 43 cases were reported from Jammu district while 16 cases were reported from Kathua, 9 from Udhampur, 7 from Samba, 6 from Ramban, 1 each from Rajouri, Reasi and Doda districts, 1 from Kashmir region and 2 from other parts of the country. The positive patients include 82 adults and 5 children, he added.
He said maximum 1741 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Udhampur district with 189 cases, Kathua with 188 cases and Samba with 179 cases each. “There were 42 cases in Rajouri, 26 in Ramban, 21 in Reasi, 18 in Doda, 14 in Poonch, 2 in Kishtwar, 15 in Kashmir and 15 from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 839 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals till date and of these, 713 have been discharged and 105 patients are still under treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be empty two times in a week.
