9 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 25: Police today arrested nine drug peddlers in different districts of Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said in Srinagar that a police team from Police Station Nowhatta apprehended two individuals, Khalid Ahmad of Rashan Ghat, Soura, and Basit Ahmad Dar of Usmaniya Colony, Eidgah, during a checkpoint operation at Ganj Baksh Park. “A substantial quantity of contraband was seized,” he said.
In Baramulla, he said, police intercepted Mubashir Mohiuddin Dar of Azadgunj at Azadgunj Chowk, recovering 200 grams of charas. Similarly, he said, in Bandipora, during a checkpoint at Papachan Bridge, police apprehended Irshad Ahmad Wani of Hajin with 47 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. “Another operation at Shokbaba Sumlar led to the arrest of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Arin with 40 grams of charas. At Check Chandergeer, police seized 98 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from Mohmad Aqib Wani of Hajin, who was driving a Maruti Alto (JK15C-0747). The vehicle was confiscated,” he said.
He further said Sopore police arrested two individuals, Aamir Farooq Dar of Ningli Sopore and Javaid Ahmad Gujri of Jamai Qadeem Sopore, at Trumgund Crossing. “They were found with 20 grams of brown sugar,” he said.
In Kupwara, the spokesperson said, police intercepted a motorcycle (JK05D-5529) at Batergam near a petrol pump. “The rider, Mohd Anwar Raina of Amroohi, Karnah, attempted to flee but was apprehended. Police recovered 14 grams of brown sugar, reportedly intended to promote drug abuse among local youth,” he said.
He said cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
