POONCH, May 24: At least 90 sheep and goats were killed in an incident of lightning in higher reaches of Loran in Mandi area of district Poonch today.
Official sources said that 60 sheep/ goats of nomad (Bakerwal), Mohd Qasim, son of Ghulam Hussain, resident of Prat village in Nowshera died at Dhok Kullian Gali on Pir Panchal, in Loran area today. It was thunder storm and raining at that time in the area. The nomads were in the Dhoks while their cattle sitting under the trees outside. They had miraculous escape in the incident.
In the same lightning incident, at least 30 sheep/ goats of nomad Mohd Junaid, son of Abdul Aziz, hailing from Mangaldeh village in Nowshera were also killed.
SHO, Loran Tilak Raj said that a police team along with some locals and veterinary official was dispatched to Kullain Gali Dhok and they confirmed the incident. He said with the lightening two trees also fell down and were badly damaged.
