KATHUA, Oct 3: The Revenue authorities today retrieved 928 kanals and 12 marlas of State land from the clutches of land mafia in village Bhagtali near Taraf Ali in Kathua tehsil.
According to reports, a team of Revenue Department headed by Tehsildar Kathua, Avtar Singh Jasrotia and Naib Tehsildar, Bodh Raj with police reinforcement today raided the village and removed the encroachments from Khasra Number 1235 and 1226. The land was encroached by  one Mohammed Din Son of Jabar Din over some years back and there was a lot of public resentment against the same as the local villagers had no land for grazing their cattle.
Reports said that the Jarai Panchayat under whose jurisdiction the area falls  had passed a resolution over some years back urging the Government that the land be restored to the village by removing the encroachments, but to no avail.
However, with the increasing public pressure the DC Kathua Ramesh Kumar issued directives to Revenue officers to remove the encroachments immediately and report compliance. Following the directives the Tehsildar Kathua and Naib Tehsildar along with a team of revenue officials and police reinforcement raided the area and removed the encroachments despite the resistance shown by Liyaqat Din, son of Mohammed Din who set a Kulla on fire to turn the public attention towards it.
But he was overpowered by the police and all encroachments from the State land were removed.
