92 cases of suicide among central armed police personnel: Govt

NEW DELHI: There were 92 cases of suicide and six cases of fratricide last year among the personnel of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles, the Government today said.

During the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju the causative factors in most cases were found to be generally personal and domestic problems like marital discord, personal enmity, mental illness, depression and work related issues.

According to the data, there were 108 cases of suicides and six cases of fratricide in 2015. The figure for 2014 pertaining to Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles was 125 cases of suicide and 7 cases of fratricide.

The minister said the Government has taken several steps to improve the working conditions and boost morale of the CAPF including transparent policies for transfer, leave and improving living conditions. (AGENCIES)
