95 pc war veterans already availed benefits of OROP: DM

PANAJI, Nov 5: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today claimed that 95 percent war veterans have already availed the benefits of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) while the remaining will be given OROP once their papers are cleared within next two to three months.

“OROP demand was pending for last 43 years and and the union Government on November 7, 2015, approved it and also granted financial approval in February this year,” he told reporters here.

Mr Parrikar said the five percent who had yet to get the OROP benefits were mostly old pensioners of 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars and family pensions.

“One of the reasons for delay is that they do not have complete records and I have now given orders to the department to prepare new records and to obtain affidavits from them so that they get OROP within next two months,” he said.

The Defence Minister said on October 24, he interacted with six Ex-servicemen’s Welfare Associations in Delhi while Ex-servicemen’s Association from Goa also met him in Panaji today and expressed satisfaction over the implementation of OROP. (UNI)
