Gaddi-Sippis deprived of ST category benefits

UDHAMPUR, Apr 16: All J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association (GSTWA) has alleged that due to the discriminatory stance of the State Government Gaddi Sippi Tribes are not getting the benefit of ST category in letter and spirit, which was conferred to them by Government of India way back in 1991, keeping in view their social, educational and economic backwardness.
This was stated by State president, All J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association, Prof BP Singh Chouhan, while interacting with the community members during his visit of Block Pancheri of District Udhampur.
He lamented that State Government has turned deaf ear towards the most genuine demands of these communities. He stated that STs of Ladakh and Gujjar Bakerwals are getting the benefits of various schemes and policies through the medium of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwals respectively whereas Gaddi Sippi tribes have been left at the mercy of God.
The demands of the community reiterated during the meeting included establishment of an Advisory Board for the development of the Gaddi and Sippi tribes, establishment of Gaddi Sippi Hostels, restart of pre matric scholarship in favour of Gaddi Sippi students, abolition of sub categories of ST category viz. STGB, STK, STL and STO, etc.
