Jagti refugees face genocidal conditions: PK survey

JAMMU, Apr 16: Panun Kashmir (PK) has conducted an extensive survey of the genocidal conditions faced by the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) refugees in Jagti camp, Nagrota through its initiative PRAYAS meant to highlight the sufferings of the Kashmiri Pandit refugees in various camps and rented accommodations.
In a family to family survey conducted by PRAYAS various parameters affecting the day to day life of the Kashmiri Pandit refugees have been considered in Jagti camp. These include affect of non availability of electricity and water supply in the camp, lack of health and educational facilities, conditions of hygiene, rise in the cases of psychological depressions, fertility rate and economic instability.
Addressing the activists and the inmates of the Jagti camp, P.L.Raina,co-ordinator PRAYAS and senior P K leader said, ”the survey conducted by the team of PRAYAS is comprehensive and based on the primary data collected from the Kashmiri Pandit refugee families clustered in the Jagti camp. The survey reveals that the Kashmiri Pandit families are being subjected to immense intimidation and continuous genocide by forcing them to live in abject depression by non availability of electricity and water, which has led to the increase in various health and psychological problems besides hygiene issues.”
He said, “PRAYAS has documented the primary data collected from the refugee settlement in Jagti and in the preliminary analysis by team of experts gross human rights violation of the K P refuges at the hands of the State Government has come to the fore. The detailed report will be released shortly and it will be submitted to various national and international human rights bodies.”
Chand Ji Pandita, co-ordinator, Panun Kashmir, Jagti unit said, “the findings of the survey conducted by the PRAYAS team has vindicated the stand of the KP refugees dwelling in Jagti camp while Sanjay Raina, co-ordinator, P K, Jagti Unit said, ”PRAYAS will build the public opinion in and outside the country about the step motherly treatment being meted out to the Jagti KPs.
