Katra-Banihal rail link work picks up

NEW DELHI, July 21:
Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, work on Indian Railways’ projects is picking up pace with construction work starting on the Udhampur-Banihal section in Jammu and Kashmir and Rishikesh to Karnprayag section in Uttarakhand.
General Manager of Northern Railway and North Central Railway, Rajiv Chaudhary reviewed the work being done by various departments in the maintenance and expansion of infrastructure and assets after the lockdown period in Northern Railway zone through video conferencing here today.
According to Northern Railway sources, as life becomes normal, the work has accelerated in repair of the railway tracks, increasing the speed limit of the sections, expanding the electrification and improving the signaling system. Infrastructural works like laying new rail lines are also gaining momentum.
According to sources, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link running in hilly areas and the Rishikesh-Karnprayag Chardham project in Uttarakhand are back on track again. The work of the 12.75-km-long T-40 tunnel in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir has resumed while activities have resumed at Chenab and Anji bridge construction sites.
The newly-constructed Veerabhadra-Rishikesh section has started in Rishikesh and a new railway station with world-class facilities has become ready at Yoganagari. The work of building many tunnels and bridges on this route has started again. (UNI)
