JAMMU, July 23: In a joint meeting, members of Jammu Civil Society (JCS) and leaders of JK Apni Party (JKAP) discussed steps need to be taken by the Government for economic revival of J&K UT.
The meeting was convened by JCS and chaired by Pardeep Gandotra. From JKAP, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari (president), Syed Asgar Ali, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Vijay Bakaya, Ajaz Ahmed Khan and Yawar Ahmad Mir participated in the meeting.
The points discussed in the meeting were given the shape of a memorandum for sending it to the Central Government. The main suggestions of the JCS members and JKAP leaders were encouraging corporates to set up large manufacturing as well as service sector units like E-commerce/BPO/KPO in J&K to tackle unemployment, developing new industrial estates and providing land at reasonable rates.
It was also suggested that Government should frame policies for conversion of Industrial Land into freehold on payment of premium by existing industrial units and grant of permission for change of land use through single window system.
Stating that with the abolition of Lakhanpur Toll tax Local industry has been adversely affected, they suggested the Government to compensate industrialists in the shape of matching incentives so that existing units do not suffer.
They further said that advisories issued by various countries regarding visit by their nationals to J&K should be got withdrawn. Besides, they suggested the Government to allow night flights to improve connectivity, ensure uninterrupted internet connectivity, digitize land records and introduce e-stamp paper and e-registration of properties on Karnataka pattern.
The meeting advised Government to explore various options to revive J&K Bank, promote quality education so that UT becomes major education hub, create sports infrastructure for national as well as international competitions, and develop new tourist destinations and link tourism in J&K with Golden Temple, Vaishno Devi Shrine and other religious places.
Prominent citizens present in the meeting included Vinod Sachdeva, Raju Chowdhary, Harinder Gupta, Sahil Mahajan, Ujjagar Singh, Harinder Mahajan, Vijay Gupta and Rajan Gupta.
