UDHAMPUR, July 24: Building of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya (KGBV) school at Basnote in Panchari tehsil has not been completed in the last 12 years
This school falls in Grade II category, in which 50 seats are sanctioned for SC, ST, OBC and orphan (BPL) category. In this school the girls of Zone Panchari i.e two Tehsils, Moungri and Panchari have been admitted.
The building construction work was stopped after ground floor slab and completion of plaster work. The contractor stopped the work due to pending claims. As the building has not been completed in the last 12 years, the KGBV is functioning from Middle School Basnote.
Parents of some girl students expressed their strong resentment over unprecedented delay in completion of the school building and urged the Lt Governor to personally intervene in this matter and issue necessary instructions for welfare of the girls from poor family backgrounds.
KGBV is fully residential school like Navodaya Vidaylaya in which fooding, lodging residential like all facilities are to be made available. There is one Post of Warden, 7 posts of full time teachers and 5 posts of Class IV employees. However, all posts have been filled up on contractual basis even as 5 teacher of Grade II are working as full time teacher. There is no warden and Class IV staff engaged by the department while only one peon is working as Class IV and all other posts are vacant.
The Central Government has opened KGBV school to educate downtrodden girls of society from class 6th to 8th. However, because of incomplete school building, the girls are not benefited of the residential school.
