SAMBA, July 29: The residents of Mandi Kotli today protested against the Jal Shakti Department in the premises of PHE Sub Division against the scarcity of drinking water in the area.
A large number of residents of Mandi Kotli gathered at PHE Sub Division, Samba under the leadership of Ajay Singh. They raised slogans against the senior officers of the Jal Shakti Department. They alleged that they had come to meet the officer of the Jal Shakti Department in Sub Division Samba regarding the shortage of drinking water supply, but when they reached the office they found that no senior officer of the Department was present in the office. This infuriated them and they resorted to protest against the Department. They said that on one side the people are facing a lot of trouble during the scorching heat and Corona epidemic but on the other side the Department is not restoring the regular drinking water supply in their area, due to which they are facing a lot of trouble.
They further said that, people are forced to bring the water through private water tankers but the poor people are unable to bear the cost of the same. Several times they made requests to the officers of the Department but they failed to restore drinking water supply in their area.
Ajay Singh of Social Club Samba said that the officers who are supposed to meet the people and listen their problems are ignoring the people. There is a nexus between the officers of the Department and private water tankers. He warned that if the water supply was not restored in their area they would be forced to lock the PHE Sub Division.
The protestors also sought intervention from Deputy Commissioner Samba.
