JAMMU, Aug 7: Deputy Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Purnima Sharma today conducted a Jan Samvad Rally at Ward No. 1 in Jammu East and made the public aware about benefits of Article 370 and 35-A abrogation.
Addressing the rally Deputy Mayor said Article 35-A of Indian Constitution empowered J&K Legislature to define who the ‘Permanent Residents’ of the State are.
“Also the State Legislature can decide what special rights and privileges these permanent residents will have,” she said, adding that the provision added by the Presidential order prohibited the non-permanent residents from settling permanently in the State, buying or acquiring immovable property like houses and land.
Sharma also said that unemployment in the State was mainly because of Article 370 as due to this Article there were very less industries here.
The Deputy Mayor also said that due to Article 370, RTE, RTI, CAG and many Indian laws were not applicable in J&K.
She further added that there are many advantages of abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A like now the J&K UT can prosper economically and socially as now the social amalgamation will reduce the threat of militancy.
Purnima Sharma appealed general masses to not to wander out of houses unnecessarily as COVID-19 cases are still on the rise.
