Alleged suicide by housewife turns out to be murder by husband

REASI, Aug 9: Alleged suicide of a young housewife at Thub Thanol, under the jurisdiction of Arnas Police Station on June 9, has turned out to be a murder by husband of the deceased.
Police claimed to have solved the case and arrested the accused, who has confessed that he murdered his wife by strangulating her because of domestic reasons.
The deceased, namely Sapna Devi (24), wife of Sudesh Kumar was found lying dead in the agriculture field at Thub Thanol near a tree with Dupatta around her neck. On being informed, IC PP Thanol, SI Qasim had rushed to the spot and preserved the scene of crime besides thoroughly examining the evidences.
Husband of Sapna Devi claimed that she had hanged herself with the tree branch whereas height of the said branch was only 5 feet and 8 inch. Later on postmortem of the dead body was conducted at PHC Panassa and an inquest proceeding under Section 174 CrPC was initiated vide DD No.16 dated 09/06/20. During the course of enquiry, the police team examined the spot and collected all circumstantial evidences. Various suspects were rounded up and on sustained interrogation husband Sudesh Kumar broke down and confessed to have committed the murder of his wife by strangulating her neck and further breaking her Cervical Vertebrae.
Accordingly, based on postmortem report and doctor’s opinion and other eye and circumstantial witnesses, Police today completed the inquest proceedings and converted the case FIR Number 67/2020 into murder case under Section 302 IPC at Police Station Arnas.
The case was solved by the SHO Arnas, Insp Rajesh Gautam under the supervision of ASP Reasi Surjeet Kumar and SDPO Arnas Dr Satish Bhardwaj.
