JAMMU, Aug 10: The Sitar duet recital was presented by two generations of Delhi Gharana featuring the renowned Sitar exponent Ustad Saeed Zafar along with his son and disciple Suhel Saeed Zafar Khan accompanied on the Tabla by Rashid Zafar.
They presented Raga Miyan Ki Malhar, a raga by the great musical jewel Tansen.
The recital was marked with pleasant movements of music phrases as per the raga shastra. The father and son duo commenced their recital with Aalap followed by Vitambit and Drut Gats in Teentaal. The introduction to the recital was presented by eminent Vocalist and Khalifa of Delhi Gharana Ustad Iqbal Ahmad Khan.
SaMaPa Digital Baithak is also presenting regional and folk music concerts from various regions of the country apart from classical music and dance, and the recent session featured Kashmiri light music by the renowned singer of Kashmir, Waheed Jeelani accompanied on the Tabla by Master Younis.
Jeelani received his initial guidance in music from late Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, a celebrated vocalist and music composer of Kashmir and his talent was further sharpened with patronage and guidance of celebrated music maestros of Kashmir like Pt. Bhajan Sopori.
SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) has taken this initiative of introducing SaMaPa Digital Baithak series keeping in mind the present circumstances in which public concerts cannot be held due to Covid19 pandemic. SaMaPa Digital Baithaks are being held on the weekends on Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm and Sunday mornings at 10:00 am exclusively on the SaMaPa Official YouTube Channel.
