Rs 41 lakh penalty imposed on defaulters by ST officials

JAMMU, Aug 11: The Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes, Enforcement wing Jammu -Samba range having additional charge of Lakhanpur under the instructions of Commissioner, State taxes, PK Bhat and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Administration and Enforcement), Rifat Kohli, imposed heavy penalties on tax evaders during July, 2020.
The Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes, Enforcement wing Jammu-Samba range having additional charge of Lakhanpur Sanjay Gupta, constituted different teams of Enforcement headed by State Taxes officers.
The dealers whose vehicles carrying goods were detained and imposed penalty to the tune of around Rs 35.6 lakhs at Lakhanpur, Rs 4.5 lakhs at Samba and Rs 1.02 lakhs in Rajouri- Poonch Range after scrutiny of tax invoices and physical verification of goods.
“The State Taxes Department shall continue inspection of interstate conveyances carrying goods without proper tax invoices, e-way bills etc. at Lakhanpur and intra-state at Samba, Rajouri and Poonch with the intention to evade tax shall be penalized under Section 129 of CGST Act, so as to ensure that the genuine traders who fulfill/ comply with all the GST rules are not hit by such malpractices,” DC State Taxes Samba informed.
It’s pertinent to mention here that around 57,346 e-way bills were verified during the month. Moreover, all the officers and officials were directed to follow the SOPs issued by higher authorities related to COVID-19 while carrying out the inspection of vehicles.
The inspection teams included STO, Enforcement wing Rajouri-poonch range Ashiq Rafiq Malik, STO’s Gurpinder Singh, Kaka Ram and Sunil Kumar posted at Lakhanpur and STO Manav Sharma posted at Samba Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and other officials of the department.
