Musharraf claim: No security lapse at IB, says Lt Gen Chait

ETAH, UP, Apr 19:  Former Pakistan Army chief Pervez Musharraf who claimed to have entered the Indian territory during 1999 Kargil war may not be able to repeat it a second time due to stringent security arrangements at the border.

Casting doubts on Musharraf’s claim, Lt General Anil Chait, general officer commanding-in-chief Central Command, today asserted that there was no security lapse.

He, however, promised to tighten security at the India-Pakistan border, if Musharraf’s claims were found to be true.

The former Pakistan president and Army chief Musharraf recently claimed that he had entered the Indian territory till 15 kms during Kargil war.

Lt Gen Chait said in this Uttar Pradesh district after inaugurating an Army clinic that there was no lapse on the part of the Indian Army at the international border.

Lt Gen Chait cautioned that ‘any country, which is not developing satisfactorily and neighbours India, might try to create problem for our nation as well.’

The senior officer also expressed concern over delayed payment of pension to Rasoolan Bibi, the widow of martyr Abdul Hamid who laid down his life during 1965 Indo-Pak war.

Abdul Hamid was awarded the highest gallantry award of the Republic of India, the Param Vir Chakra, posthumously.

Lt Gen Chait blamed the concerned bank for laxity in paying pension to Rasoolan Bibi. Recently, the Lt Gen handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the martyr’s widow. (UNI)
