Ponty case: Court fixes Apr 30 for hearing arguments on charge

NEW DELHI, Apr 19:  A Delhi court has fixed April 30 for hearing arguments on framing of charges against sacked Uttarakhand minority panel chief S S Namdhari and 10 others chargesheeted for their alleged role in the killings of Ponty Chadha and his younger brother Hardeep at a farm house here.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has already supplied to the accused with all the remaining probe reports pertaining to their investigation.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav had earlier directed the police to file the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) reports, which has been complied.

On March 19, the case was committed to the sessions court for trial by a magisterial court as the charges, under which the accused have been booked, are exclusively triable by a sessions judge.

The court will hear the arguments on charges in the case against Namdhari, his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Sachin Tyagi, his aides Simranjeet Singh and Jagbir Singh, and six other accused.

Ponty’s men including Narender Alhawat, who got two months interim bail in the case, will be among others who will face trial.

Ponty Chadha and Hardeep, who allegedly had a property dispute, were killed in a shootout at a Chhattarpur farmhouse in south Delhi on November 17, last year.

Namdhari and Tyagi are facing charges of murder, attempt to murder and other offences under the IPC besides cases under the Arms Act. Ponty has also been accused of killing his brother in the charge sheet.

The other accused have been booked for the offences ranging from attempt to murder, causing grievous harm, dacoity, rioting with deadly weapons, house trespass, kidnapping and illegally confining occupants of the farm house and destruction of evidence under IPC. (PTI)

Neighbouring nations pose

security threat to India: Bhagwat

NASHIK, Apr 19:

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has said that the nation’s security is under threat due to ‘unfriendly attitude’ of its neighbouring countries.

Without naming any country, Bhagwat said the growth and development of India is necessary for the welfare of humanity, however, it will not solve the global problems as the country is surrounded by non-friendly nations on its eastern and western borders posing a security threat.

He said this while addressing a public meeting last evening organised by the Nashik unit of RSS on the eve of ‘Ramnavami’.

Despite the three wars, the non-friendly attitude of the neighbouring nations is still on. The country’s borders are not safe as fake notes, arms and terrorists infiltrate inside India from there, he said.

“On one hand, we dream of becoming an economic superpower whereas on the other commoners are fed up of inflation, suicides by farmers are on and the country is reeling under drought. In such a situation, where is development?” Bhagwat questioned.

Voters are equally responsible for this. Quarrels about caste, regions, languages, water and borders are on across the nation and rape cases are emerging everyday. We discuss the issues but do not try to solve them, he said.

According to Bhagwat, RSS’s base is very strong.

“We are not opposing anybody and nobody is our enemy. But attempts are being made to finish us. But considering RSS’s works and its worldwide popularity, nobody has the power to finish us,” he said.

RSS Nashik unit members Vijay Kadam, Kacheshwar Sahane and Kailas Salunkhe were also present on the occasion. (PTI)
