JAMMU, Apr 19:   The Sikh Council has demanded adequate compensation and rehabilitation of the people being displaced from Upper and Lower Beli Charana besides other areas of  Rakh Raipur in Satwari.
Talking to media persons here today, Harmohinder Singh, State president of the Council said that Government acquired  over 200 kanals of land near Airport   in view of its extension programme.  The  land being acquired is for constructing alternative road to Phallain Mandal and also provide alternate irrigation facilities to the said area.  The process of acquiring land has set in motion and notices are being issued to the families.
It has been found that very low rates of land are being offered to the people while the actual rates are very high. In some Khasra numbers the rate of land is about Rs 20 lakh per kanal and even double in yet another Khasra No falling there.  The people being displaced will not be able to purchase land for housing purpose after getting meager money of their land.
The Sikh leaders demanded that Government must prepare rehabilitation plan for these displaced families and the majority of the people being dislocated are DPs of 1947.  It is very difficult for them to acquire even one Marla of land for the money being offered. They demanded that adequate rate of compensation be paid to the families.  They threatened agitation if the concerned authorities failed to take note of the issue.
