Govt averse to development of bad pocket areas: Harsh

BANI, Apr 19: Lambasting the State Government for raw deal given to the bad pocket areas of the State, Harshdev Singh, National Panthers’ Party (NPP) MLA and its chairman expressed grave concern over the lack of basic amenities and resultant public inconvenience and unrest prevailing in such areas.
Addressing a large public rally at Bani today, Singh said that while the Coalition Government made tall claims and loud announcements on the development of remote, backward and far flung areas, the ground situation was totally different. Regretting the utter neglect and deprivation of Bani tehsil in the matter of development, he said that majority of the villages didn’t have the road connectivity despite a plethora of Central and State level schemes having been announced by the Government.
He rapped the Government for failure to ensure electrification of the majority of villages, for problems of potable drinking water and failure to provide health care facilities. He said despite tremendous tourism potential in Bani, Duggan, Sarthal areas no action had been taken by the State Government to develop the said areas.
Urging the Government to provide due attention and adequate funding for the development of Bani constituency, he further advised it to refrain from rhetorical overtures and rather concentrate on delivery.
Earlier during the day, he addressed a public rally at Basohli and urged upon the people to strengthen NPP asserting that it alone could ensure justice to the hitherto deprived Jammu region.
Singh expressed grave concern over the dilapidated condition of Mahanpur-Basohli road, Basohli-Bani road and lambasted the concerned departments for inexplicable delay of more than 15 years in construction and completion of Bani-Chalog raod and Asso-Barmota road.
Pavan Dev Singh, State Secretary, Young Panthers, highlighted the local issues of Bani and sought special package for development of Bani constituency which was the victim of the official apathy and neglect. He flayed the NHPC authorities for neglect of local youth in the matter of providing employment in the said project. He deplored the inordinate delay in payment of compensation to the farmers whose lands were acquired by the NHPC project.
