Two friends come together to help COVID-19 patients find blood plasma donor

Srinagar, Aug 17: To connect the blood plasma donors with the patients who are in need, two friends from Srinagar have come together and have created a website which is doing it all.
If a person from any district of J&K—who had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and later recovered—wishes to donate the blood plasma to anyone matching the blood group, the person has to just register on the website that has been created.
Once that is done, those in need of plasma, after the required match, are connected, thus, the website is acting as a bridge between those who are in and those who are willing to donate their blood plasma.
The website www.getplasma.in has been created by two: Vidur Tickoo who is working as an engineer with Mercedes Benz Research & Development, Bangalore and Jaswinder Singh who is working as an engineer in Classic informatics, Chandigarh.
Vidur Tickoo told EXCELSIOR that they have done their part and now it needs awareness so that people who are willing to donate their plasma come to the website and register themselves with the required details so that the relevant patient—who is in need—is connected with the donor.
“We have done our part, and as on now, we have got 4 donors and we have been able to connect one patient, who needs plasma, with the donor,” Tickoo said.
He said that while they as a team do not have any connections on the ground to rope in more donors to help more patients, there is a need that the information reaches to donors who are willing to donate their plasma to help the needy.
While explaining the working of the website, Tickoo said that if anyone required a donor, the person comes to the website and provides all the required data. “Then we match those requirements with the data of donor who have expressed their willingness to donate their plasma and have registered on the website,” he said.
While saying that the plasma therapy is the only procedure available with us that has shown promising results, Jaswinder Singh told EXCELSIOR that they thought it necessary to put in place a platform which could help both the sides.
“As you would be aware that there is no vaccine as of now available for this pandemic and the only cure that is available right now is the Plasma Therapy. Our website is very simple to use and is mobile friendly. Our team has tried best to make sure that the website loads on 2G itself—as J&K is under data restriction,” he said.
Pertinent to mention here that the website is free to use and no third party, external vendors would be interfering in this process. The entire data is also secured using HTTPS authentication. The entire website development was done in house by both the team members.
