JAMMU, Aug 17: A programme on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was organized in the Directorate of Social Welfare (DSW), Jammu.
The programme was launched by DG Social Welfare, Jammu, Rehana Batul. The programme is a part of National Campaign of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment across the country to ensure reduction in drug demand and its abuse.
The Ministry has identified 272 districts (most vulnerable to drug abuse) in the whole of the country for the campaign. In case of J&K, the ministry has identified 10 districts and out of the same 4 districts of the Jammu Division are Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch.
While at district level, the district administrations are launching the programme, as a symbolic gesture, a programme was organized at Division Level in Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu. The objectives of the campaign are to increase community participation and sensitization of the people who become vulnerable to drug abuse.
To achieve the objectives, the district administration of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch is taking several measures like preventive education and organizing awareness generation programmes in educational institutions, identification of adolescents and youth vulnerable to addiction through peer led intervention and provide counseling and treatment by rehabilitation centers/hospitals, formation of student clubs in colleges to discuss and spread awareness, monitoring of treatment and counseling facilities in the district, etc.
The representatives of State Level Coordinating Agency for the campaign i.e. the NGO namely Jammu and Kashmir Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM), Drug De-addiction Centre, District Police Line Jammu, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan Janipur (Jammu), Janseva Ka Ek Avlokan Jammu, some community members and officers as well as other staff of Social Welfare Department participated in the programme.
