LeT network in Sopore wiped out; 10 militants, OGWs arrested

Srinagar, Apr 19: A day after top most commander of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in North Kashmir’s Sopore area was arrested by troops, security forces conducted raids in Sopore area since his arrest and wiped out almost entire network of LeT in the area.
Sources said that at least a dozen militants and over ground workers who were working with captured Divisional Commander of LeT for North Kashmir Qari Naved alias Fahad Ullah were arrested during raids conducted by Army and police since yesterday.
Some of the arrested militants and OGWs have been identified as Manzoor Tantray, Irshad Dar, Fayaz Ganai, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Tanvir Ahmad, Owais Ahmad Janwari, Hilal Bota, Feroz Dar and Shakir Shoukat Bhat.
The arrested included the militant who killed a youth, Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi of village Doabgah on March 19.
Two pistols and one AK rifle and some ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Most of them were arrested during raids conducted within 24 hours before Fahadullah’s arrest was made public by security forces.
According to sources, Fahadullah was confined to one of the houses for past over 3 months since the killing of 9 top militants in Sopore area. He was living in a house in village Marazigund Rafiabad and was communicating from that house only.
Reports said that Fahadullah had become suspect in the eyes of top LeT commanders across in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as they suspected his involvement in the killing of 9 militants who were killed in Sopore in a 6 day long operation in December last year.
Inspector General of Police, A G Mir told Excelsior that raids are being conducted after Fahadullah’s arrest and said that details of more successes against militants in Sopore will be revealed soon.
In the meantime sources said that Fahadullah is being produced before the media soon where he is supposed to make some revelations.
The militant Shabir Ahmad Sheikh who was killed in Sopore encounter yesterday was buried in his native village Palhalan Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
After his burial stone pelting incidents were reported on the National highway at Palhalan during which a Gypsy bearing registration number JK02N 9244 belonging to one Yasir Ahmad was set ablase by a mob. He along with Irshad Ahmad were travelling in the Gypsy. Both of them are contractors with 10 sector Army. However, both the persons managed their escape before their vehicle was set ablaze.
Meanwhile, in South Kashmir police achieved a major success by arresting two militants of LeT today. They have been identified as Imtiaz Ahamd of Anantnag and Mushtaq Ahmad of Qaimo in South Kashmir. One grenade and a pistol was recovered from their possession.
