Tagore’s abode ‘traumatised’, lovers ‘lost’

NEW DELHI, Aug 18: Less than a month of the approval of the New Education Policy (NEP),2020, that ‘promises’ overall development in country’s arena of education, the mayhem in Shantiniketan has maligned the Tagore’s abode inviting wrath of educationists and intellectuals home and abroad.
A 1,00-strong mob opposed to the construction of a fence around Visva-Bharati’s ‘Pous Mela’ ground vandalised the iconic campus on Monday prompting PM and Chancellor Narendra Modi to dial the vice-chancellor before the authorities announced an “indefinite closure” of the acclaimed Institute established by the Nobel Laureate in 1921. The more than a hour vandalism by the mob inside the reputed educational Institute has invited wide-spread condemnations from educationists, not only in country, but also from some ‘friendly’ Nations.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has said in Kolkata that she did not want to interfere in the affairs of a central university.
Ms Banerjee, however, said, the state was ready to offer whatever support the VC wanted.
