JAMMU, Aug 20: Independent Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) expressed resentment against the discriminatory attitude of the authorities and claimed that developmental activities have come to a halt in the city.
In a press conference here today Sham Lal Basson, Independent JMC Councillor said, Government is doing nothing to implement the 73rd and 74th amendment for empowering the local bodies.

He also claimed that there is total anarchy in the system with ex-ministers, ex-MLAs and ex-MLCs inaugurating developmental works and the concerned JMC Councillor not even invited and informed about such occasions.
Basson also said that cases of COVID-19 pandemic are increasing alarmingly and JMC is not activating its sanitisation operations.
He also said that street lights are non-functional at many places in the city which needs repair by the concerned JMC authorities.
Sham Lal said, earlier there was proposal wherein the JMC was to install a water cooler at each of the 75 wards but now the summers are over and no water has been installed in JMC wards.
“The authorities are not releasing funds resulting which development activities have been stalled,” Sucha Singh, another Independent Councillor representing Ward number 31 told reporters.
He also said that number of JMC Wards has increased but the number of Safai Karamcharis are still the same with no fresh recruitment.
Ashok Singh Manhas, Amit Kumar Gupta, Shama Akhtar, Rani Devi, Sandhya Devi and Anita Sharma were also present in the press conference.
